My Studio
I have just about every photographer’s dream. I built my own studio just 30’ from my house. I wanted to get into chroma key photography but wanted the studio to also be adaptable for other formats as well. My interest was photo manipulation where you photograph a subject and then mask only the subject (remove the background) to use in other projects. Then, using your imagination combine other photographs to create something special and unique. I have gotten into astrophotography to create one-of-a-kind backgrounds.
Green or blue is the preferred color because those two colors are not present in a person’s skin tone. Some would argue that green and blue leave a color edge around the subject. I have used white, black, red, green, and blue (paper and cloth) as backdrops and they all leave a colored edge. Lighting of the backdrop along with a smooth backdrop (no wrinkles) is the key to this process. You also need a good technique for removing that edge. If you want it done right, it takes time and work, just like anything else.
